Cast Iron and Steel Annealing

Annealing is defined as "heating to and holding at a specific temperature for a specified period of time followed by specified controlled cooling and holding at intervals to soften metallic materials." The annealing completed by American Steal Treating can also alter base material properties and microstructures.

What cast iron and steal annealing can do:
  • Improve machinability
  • Facilitation or stability of cold working
  • Dimensional stability

Altering Microstructure with Cast Iron and Steal Annealing

Annealing is a generic term that is not always qualified by the customer. If left to the discretion of the heat treater, full annealing is implied. We have two continuous annealing stations at our world-class steel treatment plant, each with high production capacities.

Types of annealing:
  • Lamellar-pearlitic
  • Spheroidize
  • Full
  • Isothermal
