The foundation of American Steel Treating is our inventory of
two-row and three-row continuous pusher furnaces, more than any
other commercial heat treater in North America. The furnaces process millions
of highly engineered parts per year including many industry-setting
features. The furnaces include multiple processes and several have robotic transfer of parts
from process to process.
Some of our equipment includes:
• 3 Continuous two-row pusher furnaces
• 5 Continuous three-row pusher furnaces including a recently rebuilt Holcroft 3-row, 60-tray furnace
• 3 Continuous two-row pusher furnaces available for installation to accommodate future business
• All furnaces feature hot or cold oil quench
Fixtured Products:
• Fixtured for furnaces
• Distortion control
• Consistent heat treatment
Batch Furnaces
American Steel Treating has a total of three batch lines, complete
with charge cars, smart car, draw furnaces, and parts washers.
Both plants have the option of hot and cold oil quench. Two
of the batch furnaces have top cool atmosphere-controlled quench.
Typically batch furnace processes include carburizing / carbonitriding and neutral hardening.
Features of our eight batch furnaces:
• Wash and draw
• Hot or cold oil quench
• Top cool atmosphere-controlled quench
• Normalizing
• Smart Car System

Feature of our three vacuum furnaces:
• The vacuum furnaces process high
alloy steels to support the tool and die industry.
• Two bar nitrogen quench
• Hardening
• Bright Annealing
• Clean environment
Draw Furnaces
American Steel Treating has a large inventory of draw furnaces, both in-line
with continuous pushers as well as stand-alone furnaces. Large
volumes of parts requiring tempering are run through the continuous
draw furnace.

American Steel Treating has four Bell furnaces used for the
annealing of coiled steel and to stress relieve after cold-forming
processes. Large volume parts are run through the two continuous-belt
annealing furnaces, which offer a shorter turnaround time. Parts
requiring bright annealing are also annealed using the vacuum
furnaces.

Shot peening introduces a compressive residual stress to
the surface of parts. This process helps to increase fatigue strength
on components such as shafts, gears, differential and axle components.
Another benefit of shot peen is its ability to prevent stress
cracks around any drilled holes. American
Steel Treating is one of the few companies that provide shot
peening to customers.
Some features of shot peen:
• 7 Shot peen cells
• Long-term durability
• In-line process
• Offline process

The thermal de-burr technology is unmatched in the shaft industry
to ensure burrs are removed from internally drilled holes. This process works by vaporizing any metal residue or
chips in drilled blind holes.
Some features of our thermal de-burr technology:
• 2 Thermal De-burr cells

American Steel Treating is the heat flattening supplier
for the company who is the largest clutch plate assembler
to the US truck market. The combination of using 50 tons
of pressure to hold the plates flat while heat treating accomplishes
flatness measurements not possible using other processes.
Some features of heat flattening:
• Quench and temper
• 50 tons of pressure to flatten
• Heat flattened on a stem
• Slip gauge verification of flatness

American Steel Treating employs multiple kinds of surface finishing,
vibratory finishing and shot blasting. These applications are
used for part cleaning and burr removal, as well as to help
ensure the safety of those handling the parts. In addition to
the blasting operations and equipment, American Steel Treating
has multiple types of washers and rust prevention processes
and equipment.
